In 1976, Jim McCann, founder and CEO of 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc., opened his first retail florist shop and began a journey that would forever change the way flowers, gourmet foods and other thoughtful gifts are bought for birthdays, anniversaries, and virtually every other celebratory occasion. HISTORY

1976

Jim McCann opens his first Flora Plenty retail store. It is the first of 14 flower shops he will open in the New York Metropolitan area.

1983

Flora Plenty merges with Rosalia Florist.

1984

Chris McCann joins the company.

1986

Jim McCann acquires the 1-800-FLOWERS phone number and changes the company to 1-800-FLOWERS®.

1988

Launches BloomNet, its own network of florists.

1989

1-800-FLOWERS® moves offices to Westbury, NY.

1992

1-800-FLOWERS® goes online!

1994

1-800-FLOWERS® becomes first merchant partner with AOL. Merges with Conroy’s, a large California florist.

1995

Launches first website.

Launches BloomLink (floral transmission service).

2001

Jim publishes his 2nd book, ‘’Celebrations’’.

New service center opens in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Merges with Magic Cabin and HearthSong.

1-800-FLOWERS donates over one million flowers to events honoring victims of 9/11 and participates in ceremonies for the families at Ground Zero.

2005

Jim and sister Julie Mulligan publish ‘’A Year Full of Flowers’’.

Merges with Cheryl & Co.

1-800-FLOWERS.COM® moves offices to Carle Place, NY.

2006

Our Happy Hour Bouquets® star in a national advertising campaign from New York to Los Angeles – transforming Happy Hour in major cities around the country!

2008
